Agricultural Technician

About the Role

Our client seeks a skilled and proactive Agricultural Technician to join their dynamic team in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is critical in supporting the day-to-day operations of a diverse agricultural business, focusing on the maintenance and operation of farm machinery, as well as assisting with various technical tasks across crop and livestock management. You will play a key part in ensuring the smooth functioning of the farm, contributing to efficiency and productivity through your technical expertise. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong mechanical aptitude and a passion for the agricultural sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a range of agricultural machinery, including tractors, harvesters, and implements.
• Operate farm machinery safely and efficiently for tasks such as ploughing, seeding, spraying, and harvesting.
• Assist with the installation and upkeep of irrigation systems, drainage, and other farm infrastructure.
• Conduct soil sampling and analysis, and assist with the application of fertilizers and pesticides under supervision.
• Monitor crop health and livestock conditions, reporting any issues or anomalies to the farm manager.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and operational activities.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Agricultural Technician or a strong background in agricultural machinery maintenance.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on farm equipment.
• Ability to operate various types of farm machinery safely and competently.
• Knowledge of basic crop production and livestock management principles.
• A relevant vocational qualification in agriculture, engineering, or a related field is advantageous.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and undertake physically demanding tasks.
