AI / ML Engineer

Location: Hampshire / Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite
Salary: 60,000 per annum + benefits

Are you an experienced AI/ML Engineer who enjoys tackling complex technical problems and turning research into practical solutions?

We're looking for a hands-on AI/ML professional to join a highly technical engineering team working on challenging projects across Defence, National Security and other technically complex environments .

This is an opportunity to work across areas including LLMs, NLP, Computer Vision and Reinforcement Learning , depending on your experience.

What you'll be doing

• Researching and evaluating state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques.
• Adapting academic research and existing algorithms to solve real-world problems.
• Designing, developing and testing AI/ML solutions.
• Building hands-on AI/ML software, primarily using Python .
• Experimenting with different approaches and evaluating results.
• Working on both early-stage R&D projects and larger engineering programmes.
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Supporting technical solution design, customer engagements and bids.

What we're looking for

• Strong hands-on experience in AI/ML engineering, R&D or applied research .
• Experience applying AI/ML techniques to complex problems.
• Experience researching, adapting and applying algorithms or academic research.
• Strong Python and software engineering skills.
• Experience working in agile engineering teams.
• A genuine interest in experimenting with new technologies and solving problems where the solution isn't immediately obvious.
• Experience in one or more of LLMs, NLP, Computer Vision or Reinforcement Learning .

Defence or National Security experience is advantageous but not essential. We're equally interested in candidates from other technically demanding environments with strong applied AI/ML experience.

We're particularly interested in engineers who are hands-on and technically curious , rather than candidates whose experience is predominantly focused on large-scale enterprise ML pipelines or generic MLOps.
