Application Security Specialist

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Application Security Specialist to join their technology team in Nottingham . This role is dedicated to ensuring the security of software applications throughout their lifecycle, from design and development to deployment and maintenance. You will work closely with development teams to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities, implement secure coding practices, and conduct security testing. This is a crucial role for an individual passionate about building secure software and protecting applications from cyber threats, offering the convenience of remote work.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform security reviews of application designs, code, and architecture to identify potential vulnerabilities.
• Conduct static and dynamic application security testing (SAST/DAST) using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Collaborate with software developers to provide guidance on secure coding practices and remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
• Develop and maintain security standards and guidelines for application development.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of security testing tools and frameworks.
• Stay updated on emerging application security threats and vulnerabilities, and advise on mitigation strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in application security or software development with a security focus.
• Strong understanding of common web application vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and how to prevent them.
• Proficiency with application security testing tools and methodologies.
• Experience with secure coding practices and security principles in software development.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their security implications for applications is desirable.
