Arboricultural Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Arboricultural Officer to join their team in the Stoke-on-Trent area. This vital role focuses on the management, preservation, and health of trees and woodlands across their diverse portfolio. You will be responsible for conducting tree surveys, assessing risk, planning and supervising tree works, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of tree species, health, and maintenance, coupled with strong project management and communication skills. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive tree surveys and inspections, identifying health issues, structural defects, and potential hazards.
• Develop and manage tree planting, maintenance, and pruning programs in accordance with best arboricultural practices.
• Assess and manage risks associated with trees, ensuring public safety and compliance with relevant legislation.
• Prepare detailed reports, specifications, and tender documents for tree surgery and woodland management contracts.
• Supervise contractors undertaking arboricultural works, ensuring quality and adherence to safety standards.
• Provide expert advice on tree preservation orders (TPOs) and planning applications related to trees.
• Maintain accurate records of tree stock, surveys, and completed works.

Requirements

• Professional qualification in Arboriculture, Forestry, or a related discipline (e.g., RFS Certificate/Diploma, LANTRA qualifications).
• Significant experience in professional tree management and assessment.
• In-depth knowledge of tree identification, physiology, pests, diseases, and decay mechanisms.
• Proficiency in using survey equipment and arboricultural software.
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including TPOs and health and safety regulations.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
