Architect Specifications Manager
Location: Across the US (with regular travel)
Type: Full-time
If you love turning early conversations into long-term design wins, this role is for you. As an Architect Specifications Manager, you’ll help shape how our products are selected, specified, and specified again—working at the point where inspiration becomes procurement.
You’ll partner with architects, designers, and key trade stakeholders to strengthen specification coverage, influence technical decision-making, and ensure our solutions appear confidently in the plans that move from concept to completion.
What you’ll do
- Drive specification strategy by managing and progressing specification activity across priority project types and regions.
- Build and maintain relationships with architects, specification consultants, and design offices—supporting them with clarity, confidence, and timely technical information.
- Own the end-to-end specification journey: from initial engagement, to technical review, to inclusion in schedules/specifications and ongoing updates.
- Translate product capability into design language by presenting features, performance, and benefits in a way that aligns with architects’ documentation and requirements.
- Coordinate technical support with internal teams to ensure architects receive accurate data, compliance information, and documentation when they need it.
- Support bid and project momentum by responding quickly to specification queries, attending key design meetings where appropriate, and helping overcome objections with evidence.
- Manage specification assets such as datasheets, BIM-ready content guidance (where applicable), CAD/technical pack information, and reference documentation.
- Identify opportunities and track outcomes using a CRM approach—monitoring pipeline, progress, and wins to improve future coverage.
- Collaborate on regional growth by feeding insights into marketing and sales strategy—telling the story of what architects need, and where gaps exist.
What we’re looking for
You don’t just “sell”; you specify. You’re comfortable in technical conversations, but you also understand how design professionals make decisions and how projects progress through the build pipeline.
- Experience in architectural specifications, technical sales, specification management, or a closely related role (a strong match would be a background working with architects/specifiers, not just general sales).
- A strong understanding of specification processes (e.g., how product inclusion is influenced through documentation, technical submissions, and design development).
- Confident communication style with the ability to build trust quickly with design professionals.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and stakeholder groups.
- Comfort with travel and working across regions, with a flexible approach to planning.
- Analytical mindset: you can track what’s happening, what’s next, and what success looks like—then adjust quickly.
- Experience using CRM systems and producing clear, timely reporting.
Nice to have (but not essential):
- Familiarity with technical documentation and compliance expectations relevant to construction materials.
- Experience working with specification platforms, building product listings, or design-association ecosystems.
- Exposure to BIM/CAD documentation practices (where applicable to your regional work).
Why this role matters
Specifications are the bridge between what designers imagine and what contractors install. In this position, you’ll be the person who helps ensure architects have the right information at the right time—so designs move forward smoothly, confidently, and with fewer last-minute surprises.
You’ll be visible, influential, and respected in technical spaces—helping convert relationships into repeatable design wins.
How you’ll succeed here
- Be proactive: you’ll spot specification opportunities early and take action before they’re lost.
- Be technical, not intimidating: you’ll deliver detail with clarity and keep momentum going.
- Be consistent: you’ll follow through on submissions, approvals, and next steps—without leaving stakeholders chasing.
- Be collaborative: you’ll partner across teams to provide the right support and documentation at speed.
- Be outcomes-focused: you’ll track progress and focus on measurable wins.
