Assistant Headteacher - Pastoral Care

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and inspiring Assistant Headteacher with a focus on Pastoral Care to join the leadership team of a secondary school in Portsmouth . This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing the well-being, behaviour, and personal development of all students, ensuring a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment. You will play a key part in developing and implementing strategies that promote excellent student conduct, emotional resilience, and a strong sense of community within the school. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the school's pastoral care systems, including behaviour management and student welfare.
• Develop and implement policies and strategies to promote positive student behaviour and address safeguarding concerns.
• Support and mentor Heads of Year and form tutors, fostering effective pastoral teams.
• Oversee student attendance, punctuality, and engagement, implementing interventions where necessary.
• Work collaboratively with parents, external agencies, and staff to support students' holistic development.
• Contribute to the overall strategic leadership and management of the school.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Significant experience in teaching and school leadership, with a strong background in pastoral care.
• Demonstrated ability to manage behaviour effectively and promote positive student outcomes.
• In-depth knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection legislation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to promoting the well-being and personal development of all students.
