Job Description
We're looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team on a major £80 million student accommodation scheme in Bristol. This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate or early-career surveyor to gain hands-on experience on a large-scale, high-profile residential development, working alongside experienced QS professionals and a strong project team.
You'll be involved from an early stage in the build programme, giving you exposure to the full lifecycle of a major project — from procurement and subcontractor management through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation of interim valuations and cost reports
* Support the measurement and pricing of works from drawings and specifications
* Help prepare tender and subcontract documentation
* Assist in the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
* Support the management of subcontractor accounts, including valuations, variations, and final accounts
* Assist with cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and reporting
* Help maintain accurate cost records and project documentation
* Attend site visits and progress meetings to monitor works on the ground
* Support senior surveyors with contract administration and correspondence
* Assist with the preparation of monthly cost/value reports
What We're Looking For
* A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related built environment discipline (or due to graduate)
* A genuine interest in pursuing a career in quantity surveying within a contracting environment
* Strong numeracy and analytical skills, with good attention to detail
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with measurement/cost software (e.g. CostX, Bluebeam) is a bonus but not essential
* A proactive, willing-to-learn attitude and ability to work well within a team
* A full UK driving licence is desirable, as some site travel may be required
* Working towards (or interested in working towards) chartered status with the RICS or CIOB
What We Offer
* Structured training and mentoring from experienced QS professionals
* Support towards professional accreditation (RICS/CIOB) including study leave and course fees
* Exposure to a major live construction project from day one
* Competitive graduate salary plus benefits package
* Genuine career progression opportunities within a growing commercial team
