Automation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and innovative Automation Engineer to join their advanced manufacturing facility in Derby . This role is crucial for enhancing production efficiency, reliability, and safety through the implementation and maintenance of automated systems. You will be involved in designing, programming, and commissioning robotic and PLC-controlled machinery, troubleshooting automation issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical aptitude, expertise in automation technologies, and a passion for cutting-edge manufacturing solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, program, and commission automated manufacturing systems, including PLC, HMI, and robotic applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues with automation equipment and software to minimise downtime.
• Implement predictive maintenance strategies for automated machinery to enhance reliability.
• Collaborate with the engineering team on the integration of new automated solutions and upgrades to existing systems.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including electrical schematics, programming code, and operating manuals.
• Ensure all automation projects and modifications comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Proven experience as an Automation Engineer or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong programming skills in PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell) and experience with HMI/SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of robotics (e.g., KUKA, Fanuc) and industrial networks.
• Experience with CAD software for electrical design and panel layouts.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.
