About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Automotive Powertrain Design Engineer to join their advanced engineering team in Norwich . This role is crucial for the design, development, and optimization of next-generation internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and future electric powertrains. You will be involved in the entire lifecycle of powertrain components, from conceptualization through to testing and validation, ensuring peak performance and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in mechanical or automotive engineering and a passion for innovation in propulsion systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and systems for automotive powertrains, including engines, transmissions, and associated subsystems.
- Utilize CAD software for 3D modeling and create detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing.
- Perform engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations, to validate designs.
- Collaborate with testing teams to conduct performance, durability, and emissions testing of powertrain prototypes.
- Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are optimized for production feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
- Investigate and resolve design-related issues encountered during development and testing phases.
- Contribute to the research and development of new powertrain technologies, including electrification and alternative fuels.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive powertrain design or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, GT-SUITE).
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and internal combustion engine principles.
- Experience with hybrid or electric vehicle powertrain components is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
