About the Role
Bluestones Medical is currently recruiting an experienced Band 8b Head of Healthcare to work within the healthcare department at HMP Stoke .
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced healthcare professional with strong operational, clinical and people-management experience. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership for the delivery of healthcare services within the prison environment.
Working within a complex and challenging setting, the Head of Healthcare will be responsible for supporting the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred healthcare services to the prison population, while ensuring compliance with relevant healthcare, regulatory and prison service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior leadership and operational management of healthcare services within HMP Stoke.
- Lead and support the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality healthcare services.
- Provide professional leadership to multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Ensure services are delivered in accordance with relevant clinical, professional and regulatory standards.
- Oversee the day-to-day operational delivery of healthcare services.
- Support the management, development and performance of healthcare staff.
- Promote a positive culture of patient safety, clinical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Monitor service performance and ensure appropriate action is taken where improvements are required.
- Work collaboratively with prison management, healthcare professionals and external stakeholders.
- Support the development and implementation of clinical governance frameworks.
- Oversee incident reporting, investigation and learning processes.
- Ensure effective risk management and safeguarding processes are in place.
- Support the management of complaints and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure appropriate workforce planning and staffing levels are maintained.
- Contribute to recruitment, induction, supervision and performance management of staff.
- Support the delivery of audits, inspections and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure effective communication across healthcare and custodial teams.
- Promote equality, diversity, dignity and respect for all patients.
- Ensure healthcare services are delivered in line with relevant policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records and documentation.
- Provide senior-level advice and support on clinical and operational healthcare matters.
Essential Requirements
- Current professional registration with the relevant UK healthcare regulator.
- Previous experience working at Band 8b level or equivalent.
- Significant experience in a senior healthcare leadership or management position.
- Strong experience managing multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Experience in operational and clinical service management.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, risk management and patient safety.
- Excellent leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage complex and challenging situations effectively.
- Experience working within a secure, custodial, forensic or similarly complex healthcare environment would be highly advantageous.
- Current and valid prison clearance is required.
- Ability to successfully complete all required security and compliance checks.
- Right to work in the UK.

Prison Clearance Requirement
Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must hold valid prison clearance or be eligible to obtain the required prison clearance .
