Job Description
BMS Design Engineer – Siemens / Desigo
BMS Design Engineer – Exciting Opportunity
I’m currently working with a fast-growing engineering consultancy delivering complex systems and programmes across major infrastructure projects.
The business has grown to around 30 people , with an inspirational Director who has previously built a company from the ground up to 500+ employees. They’re continuing to grow rapidly, with recent partnerships with major OEMs and further opportunities on the horizon.
We’re now looking for a BMS Design Engineer to join the team, with a particular focus on the integration of Siemens systems and Desigo .
The Role
This is not a traditional controls engineering role focused on developing control algorithms. Instead, you'll be working as a systems-focused BMS engineer , ensuring mechanical and electrical building systems can communicate effectively with the BMS.
You’ll be involved with systems including:
- HVAC and air-handling units
- VRS cooling systems
- Chillers
- Heat pumps
- Other mechanical building services systems
You’ll assess how these systems communicate with the BMS, including BACnet, Modbus and other communication protocols , and ensure the equipment being procured is compatible with the overall system architecture.
You’ll also:
- Review mechanical equipment specifications and proposed purchases
- Identify BMS and communications requirements at an early stage
- Raise early warnings where equipment may require additional components or interfaces
- Develop BMS layouts, system architecture and control panel designs
- Support the integration of multiple building systems into a cohesive platform
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical and wider engineering teams
- Liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers
- Support specifications, commissioning and handover
Ideally, you’ll have experience with:
- HVAC and mechanical building services systems
- Electrical systems and energy efficiency principles
- Siemens Desigo or similar BMS platforms
- BACnet, Modbus and/or OPC UA
- BEMS design and system architecture
- Control panels and building automation systems
- AutoCAD, MicroStation, EPLAN or Revit
- Tridium Niagara, Schneider EcoStruxure or similar platforms
- Energy data analysis and optimisation
- Building standards, compliance and energy efficiency
- Building automation cyber-security principles
- Smart building / IoT technologies
Most importantly, you’ll be comfortable understanding complex technical systems, identifying integration requirements and communicating those requirements clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Why join?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a consultancy that is genuinely growing , rather than simply talking about growth.
You’ll have the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile infrastructure and building systems projects , alongside experienced engineers and an entrepreneurial leadership team.
If you're a BMS/BEMS engineer who enjoys the systems engineering and integration side of the discipline , this could be an excellent next step.
