Business Development Appointment Booker / Telemarketer - Construction
Working Pattern: 5 days per week in the office Sector: Construction / Education / Interiors Start Date: ASAP
We are working with an established and growing business within the construction and education sector, specialising in the design and delivery of high-quality learning environments for schools, colleges and universities.
As the business continues to grow its commercial team, they are looking for an enthusiastic and confident Appointment Booker / Telemarketer to join their Business Development function.
This is a 5-day-a-week office-based role, focused primarily on making outbound calls to schools and relevant contacts, building relationships and booking qualified meetings for the Head of Business Development.
The Role
This is a straightforward, phone-focused Business Development position.
You'll be provided with a defined target list and will be responsible for making outbound calls, introducing the business, identifying potential opportunities and securing meetings for the senior BD team.
The role isn't about aggressive telesales or closing deals over the phone. It's about having a warm, credible conversation, getting past the initial resistance that comes with cold calling and successfully getting the right people into a meeting.
You'll be an important part of the front end of the company's sales process, helping create a consistent pipeline of new opportunities for the wider commercial team.
Key Responsibilities
Make outbound calls to schools and relevant organisations from a defined target list Introduce the business and build rapport with new contacts Identify potential opportunities and understand whether there is a genuine requirement Book qualified meetings for the Head of Business Development Follow up with contacts and work through the target list systematically Maintain accurate records of calls, contacts and activity within the CRM Consistently work towards agreed call, appointment and activity targets Develop relationships with prospective clients rather than relying purely on scripted telesales Work closely with the wider BD and sales team to ensure a smooth handover of opportunities Help establish a consistent and repeatable approach to new business generationAbout You
We're looking for someone who is confident, enthusiastic and naturally comfortable speaking to people on the phone.
You don't need to be an experienced salesperson or someone who wants to become a senior sales executive. In fact, this role would suit someone who is genuinely happy being the person who makes the calls, starts the conversations and books the meetings.
You will need to be resilient. Not every call will result in a meeting, so you'll need to be comfortable hearing "no", picking up the phone again and moving onto the next opportunity.
A good telephone manner is essential. You should come across as warm, professional, clear and credible, rather than overly salesy or scripted.
Most importantly, you'll need to be someone who enjoys speaking to people and has the energy to make a high volume of calls consistently.
Essential Experience
Previous experience within construction or a closely related industry Excellent telephone manner and confident communication skills Comfortable making outbound calls and speaking to new contacts Resilient and able to handle rejection without losing motivation Enthusiastic, positive and personable Organised and able to manage a structured target list Comfortable working towards activity and appointment targets Basic CRM experience and good administrative discipline Happy working 5 days per week from the officeDesirable Experience
Previous appointment-setting or telesales experience in Construction B2B business development experience Experience working with construction, property, interiors, education or related sectors Experience booking meetings for senior sales or BD professionals Experience working with a CRM and structured outbound calling campaignsThe Opportunity
You'll be joining a growing business with an established proposition and a strong presence within the education and construction sector.
The company designs and delivers learning environments for schools, colleges and universities, combining design, project delivery and furniture manufacture. There is also a wider consultancy side to the business, giving you the opportunity to represent a company with a broad offering rather than a single-product sales proposition.
You'll receive a warm target list, training and support from day one, with clear expectations around activity and booked meetings.
There may also be opportunities to progress into a broader Business Development role over time, although the immediate focus of this position is very specifically on outbound calling and appointment setting
