Business Development Manager – Nuclear / Heavy Engineering

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a long-established UK engineering business delivering complex, bespoke engineering projects across the nuclear, defence and wider heavy engineering sectors.

This is not a standard product sales role. The business provides complete bespoke engineering solutions, with extensive in-house capability covering design, heavy fabrication, machining, manufacture, assembly, testing, installation and commissioning.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to identify and develop new project opportunities across the UK.

The Role

Working closely with the Sales Director and wider engineering and commercial teams, you will:

• Identify and develop new business opportunities across the UK

• Develop relationships with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, end users and major engineering organisations

• Target project opportunities within nuclear as a key growth market, alongside defence, infrastructure and wider heavy engineering

• Engage with customers at an early stage to understand upcoming projects and technical requirements

• Sell the company's overall engineering capability and project solutions, rather than an off-the-shelf product

• Work alongside internal engineering, estimating, commercial and project teams to develop solutions and proposals

• Manage opportunities through long and technically complex sales cycles

• Develop existing industry relationships while proactively opening new accounts and markets

• Represent the business at customer meetings, industry events and relevant exhibitions

• Maintain a strong pipeline of future projects and opportunities

The Person

The ideal candidate will have experience within nuclear engineering, heavy engineering, fabrication, machining or a similar project-led engineering environment.

You may currently be working as a Business Development Manager, Sales Manager, Commercial Manager, Sales Engineer, Account Manager or in a commercially focused estimating, proposals or tendering position.

Experience within nuclear would be particularly advantageous, especially where you have developed relationships with Tier 1 contractors, nuclear site operators, engineering organisations or companies involved in nuclear new build and decommissioning.

Most importantly, you will understand how to sell a technical engineering capability or bespoke solution, rather than simply selling a catalogue or standard manufactured product.

Candidates with strong technical/commercial backgrounds who are looking to move further into business development will also be considered.
