Buyer - Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Buyer to join their busy manufacturing operations in Southampton . This role is critical in ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of raw materials, components, and equipment necessary for production. You will be responsible for supplier selection, negotiation, order management, and maintaining strong supplier relationships to ensure a consistent and high-quality supply chain. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of manufacturing procurement needs and be adept at managing multiple demands in a fast-paced industrial environment, contributing directly to production schedules and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and procure raw materials, components, and MRO supplies according to production schedules.
• Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost savings and optimize lead times.
• Manage supplier performance, quality, and delivery expectations.
• Process purchase orders accurately and maintain up-to-date purchasing records.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality control teams to ensure material requirements are met.
• Monitor inventory levels and work to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Buyer, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Proven negotiation skills and experience managing supplier contracts.
• Strong understanding of supply chain principles relevant to manufacturing.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement processes.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
