Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cancer Services MDT Co-ordinator to join the Cancer Services team. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality cancer care by co-ordinating Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and managing patient pathways throughout the cancer journey. Working closely with consultants, clinical nurse specialists, cancer pathway trackers and administrative teams, the successful candidate will ensure that MDT meetings are effectively organised, outcomes are accurately recorded, and patients progress through their cancer pathways in line with national Cancer Waiting Time standards. The role is central to ensuring accurate cancer data collection, facilitating timely clinical decision-making and supporting the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centered care., The Cancer Services MDT Coordinator is responsible for the effective organisation and administration of MDT meetings across designated cancer specialties. This includes preparing meeting agendas, compiling patient information, ensuring all relevant diagnostic results and reports are available, and supporting clinicians in making timely treatment decisions. The post holder will attend MDT meetings, accurately document decisions and actions, monitor attendance and ensure all outcomes are communicated and actioned promptly. A key responsibility of the role is maintaining accurate patient data and supporting mandatory national cancer reporting requirements. This includes updating clinical systems and the Somerset Cancer Register ensuring data quality. The post holder will liaise extensively with consultants, specialist nurses, diagnostic services, operational teams and external healthcare organisations to coordinate investigations, treatment planning and specialist MDT referrals. They will facilitate the transfer of information and imaging where required and ensure effective communication across organisations involved in a patient's care.
Responsibilities
- Attend MDT meetings, accurately record discussions and decisions, and communicate outcomes to relevant clinical teams.
- Maintain and update patient information across clinical systems and the Somerset Cancer Register, ensuring data quality and accuracy.
- Liaise with clinicians, diagnostic departments, tertiary centres and external organisations to support timely patient management and MDT discussions.
- Support national cancer reporting requirements and contribute to audits, quality improvement initiatives and service development projects.
- Provide specialist administrative support to Cancer Services and contribute to the continuous improvement of MDT processes and cancer pathway management.
The successful candidate will possess excellent organisational, communication and IT skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications
- Good general standard of education including Mathematics and English Language - GCSE level C or equivalent.
- RSA III or equivalent level of skill gained through experience or alternative qualification.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ 3 Business Administration or Team Leadership or Customer Care or equivalent qualification / experience.
- Relevant IT qualification specific to post i.e ECDL, Experience of dealing with non routine issues
- Experience in problem solving queries
- Experience in dealing with conflicting time pressures and prioritising work appropriately
- Report writing and providing succinct information to a large group
- Data processing and entry to an above average standard ensuring records are accurate for National reporting purposes.
- Experience of working with an MDT, Knowledge of Cancer Waiting Times Targets and Cancer Pathways.
- Knowledge of relevant medical terminology.
- Experience and Understanding of National RTT (referral to treatment) target
- Keyboard and computer literacy to an advanced standard
- Participation or willingness to participate in continuing development to improve and update knowledge.
- Experience of working both within a Team and independently
- Strong Organisational Skills
- Knowledge of MDT processes and SOPs

- Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.

Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.
