School Caretaker – Hertfordshire

Salary: £27,274–£28,153 per annum (H4), dependent on qualifications and experience. Part-time salary basis to be confirmed.

Teach Now is recruiting a School Caretaker to join an established Site Team in Hertfordshire. Working alongside the Site Manager, youll help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

From preparing spaces for school events to tackling minor repairs, this varied, hands-on role offers the satisfaction of seeing the difference your work makes every day.

Your responsibilities

• Open and secure buildings, support alarm systems and carry out routine site checks.

• Complete minor repairs, decorating and basic maintenance, using tools safely.

• Set up furniture for assemblies and events, move deliveries and maintain outdoor areas.

• Undertake emergency cleaning and help with snow and ice clearance.

• Record maintenance jobs and support water flushing, fire safety and other site procedures.

• Assist with school lettings, with occasional evening or weekend work and overtime.

• Support minibus driving where required, subject to appropriate licensing and training.

What you'll bring

• Reliability, punctuality and a practical, proactive approach.

• Confidence working independently and responding to changing priorities.

• Ability to undertake the roles manual handling and site duties safely, with reasonable adjustments where appropriate.

• Willingness to work indoors and outdoors and undertake cleaning duties when needed.

• Professional communication and a commitment to safeguarding.

• Flexibility for occasional out-of-hours work and willingness to complete relevant training.

Previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance, grounds or building-trade experience is welcome but not essential.
