Category Buyer - FMCG

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Category Buyer to manage sourcing and procurement for key product categories within their FMCG operations, based in Cambridge . This critical role involves identifying and securing the best value suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality goods that meet business needs and consumer expectations. You will play a vital part in optimizing costs and supply chain efficiency while maintaining strong supplier relationships. This is a key procurement position within a leading company in the East of England.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement sourcing strategies for assigned FMCG categories to achieve cost savings and enhance supply chain performance.
• Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers, ensuring compliance with quality, ethical, and sustainability standards.
• Conduct negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
• Manage supplier relationships and performance, addressing any issues and fostering collaborative partnerships.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including marketing, R&D, and operations, to understand category requirements and support product development.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a procurement or buying role, with significant experience within the FMCG sector.
• Strong negotiation skills and a track record of achieving cost savings through effective supplier management.
• Deep understanding of sourcing best practices, contract law, and risk management.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to manage complex supply chains.
• Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CIPS) are a plus.
