Category Buyer

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, is seeking a strategic and experienced Category Buyer to manage a key procurement category. This role, based remotely with occasional travel required, will involve identifying and sourcing high-quality suppliers, negotiating favourable terms, and ensuring a consistent supply of raw materials and finished goods critical to the company's operations. You will play a crucial role in cost optimisation and supplier relationship management, contributing directly to the profitability and efficiency of the business within the competitive UK FMCG market .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement category sourcing strategies to ensure the procurement of raw materials, packaging, and services meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements for FMCG products .
• Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers, fostering strong, collaborative relationships to ensure supply chain resilience and innovation.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings and favourable business conditions.
• Monitor market trends, commodity prices, and supplier performance to mitigate risks and capitalise on opportunities.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including product development, operations, and marketing, to understand their needs and ensure alignment of procurement activities.
• Manage the category budget effectively and contribute to the overall profitability goals of the organisation.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or category management, with a strong emphasis on the FMCG sector .
• Demonstrated success in negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships to achieve cost savings and quality improvements.
• Strong understanding of procurement best practices, supply chain principles, and market analysis techniques.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Proficiency in procurement software and tools; experience with e-sourcing platforms is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
