About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Category Buyer to join their purchasing team based in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is crucial for managing specific product or service categories, ensuring the best possible value and quality are obtained from suppliers. You will be responsible for the end-to-end sourcing process, from market analysis and supplier selection to contract negotiation and performance monitoring. The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to the company's profitability and operational efficiency through strategic sourcing decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of specific procurement categories, developing category strategies and sourcing plans.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify new sourcing opportunities and potential risks.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to achieve cost savings and favourable agreements.
- Manage supplier performance, conduct regular reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations and finance, to align procurement activities with business needs.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, ethical guidelines, and legal regulations related to procurement.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Buyer or Category Manager, ideally within a manufacturing or retail environment.
- Strong understanding of sourcing strategies, supplier relationship management, and contract negotiation.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and financial information.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, and experience with procurement software.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
