About the Role
Our client, a prominent manufacturer and distributor in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Category Buyer to manage key purchasing categories from their Reading headquarters. This role is essential for ensuring the cost-effective sourcing of raw materials and finished goods, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and contributing to the overall profitability and supply chain efficiency of the business. You will be responsible for strategic procurement decisions, driving value and ensuring the timely availability of products for their extensive portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute category sourcing strategies to achieve cost savings, quality standards, and supply chain security objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers, negotiating favourable terms, pricing, and contracts.
- Manage ongoing supplier relationships, conducting regular performance reviews and fostering collaborative partnerships.
- Analyse market trends, pricing, and supplier capabilities to inform procurement decisions.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including product development, manufacturing, and sales, to understand their needs and ensure alignment.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment to meet production and customer demand.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Buyer or Category Manager within the FMCG or manufacturing industry.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and commercial acumen.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing category strategies and achieving cost savings.
- Excellent understanding of procurement best practices and supply chain dynamics.
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
