About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic and commercially astute Category Buyer to manage key purchasing categories within the FMCG sector in Sheffield . This role is essential for sourcing high-quality products at competitive prices, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring alignment with business needs and sustainability goals. You will be responsible for analyzing market trends, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with internal teams to support product development and marketing initiatives. This is a great opportunity for an experienced buyer to take ownership of significant spend areas within a leading FMCG company.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement category strategies to optimize cost, quality, and supply chain efficiency.
• Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, pricing, and contracts.
• Monitor market trends, commodity prices, and supplier performance to mitigate risks and identify opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including marketing and product development, to meet category objectives.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, ethical sourcing, and sustainability standards.
• Manage inventory levels in collaboration with supply chain and operations teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; CIPS qualification is a plus.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in purchasing or category management, specifically within the FMCG industry .
• Proven negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in procurement software and MS Office Suite.
