About the Role
Our client, a leading player in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, is seeking a strategic and analytical Category Manager to oversee a key product category from their Newcastle upon Tyne office. This role is crucial for driving category growth through insightful market understanding, effective product portfolio management, and strong supplier relationships. You will be responsible for maximising sales and profitability by developing and executing category strategies that align with consumer needs and market dynamics. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category strategies, including assortment planning, pricing, promotion, and placement, to drive sales and profitability.
- Analyse category performance, market trends, and competitor activities to identify growth opportunities and threats.
- Manage supplier relationships, negotiate terms, and ensure the availability of high-quality products within the category.
- Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to create compelling category plans and promotional activities.
- Optimise stock levels and manage inventory to minimise costs and maximise product availability.
- Present category insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in category management or a similar commercial role within the FMCG industry .
- Strong understanding of retail dynamics, consumer behaviour, and category management principles.
- Proven negotiation skills and experience in managing supplier relationships.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in data analysis tools.
