About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Chemical Engineer with a specialization in scale-up to join their vibrant research and development team in Brighton . This role is crucial for bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and commercial production, focusing on translating new chemical processes into efficient and reliable manufacturing operations. You will work on exciting projects, ensuring that processes developed at the bench scale can be successfully and safely implemented at larger production volumes. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving and contributing to the successful commercialization of new technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the scale-up of new chemical processes from laboratory bench to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales.
- Conduct pilot plant trials, collecting and analyzing data to optimize process parameters and ensure robustness.
- Develop detailed process designs, including P&IDs, mass and energy balances, and equipment specifications for scale-up projects.
- Identify and mitigate scale-up risks, ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and economic viability.
- Collaborate closely with R&D chemists, process operators, and equipment engineers throughout the scale-up lifecycle.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered during scale-up and initial plant operation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Proven experience (4+ years) in process scale-up, pilot plant operations, or technology transfer within the chemical industry.
- Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes as they relate to scale-up.
- Experience with process simulation software and statistical analysis for experimental design and data interpretation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about transitioning from lab to plant.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to document technical findings clearly and concisely.
