Chemical Process Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Chemical Process Design Engineer to join their expanding engineering department in Bristol . This role is central to the conceptualization and detailed design of new chemical plants and process modifications. You will be responsible for developing process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and ensuring designs meet safety, environmental, and economic objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical design skills, experience with process simulation tools, and a collaborative spirit. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine process designs for new chemical facilities and plant upgrades.
• Create detailed Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Specify process equipment, including reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and vessels.
• Conduct feasibility studies and preliminary economic assessments of process designs.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with project management, construction, and operations teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in process design engineering, preferably in consultancy or EPC roles.
• Proficiency with process simulation software such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS.
• Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
• Experience in conducting Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).
• Excellent technical drawing and documentation skills.
