About the Role
Our client, a dynamic specialty chemicals firm, is seeking a talented Chemical Process Engineer to support their Research and Development division in Southampton . This role is essential in bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and industrial-scale production, focusing on the development and scale-up of new chemical processes. You will collaborate closely with R&D scientists to translate experimental findings into robust, efficient, and safe manufacturing procedures, working in a hybrid model that combines on-site collaboration with remote flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the scale-up of new chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial scale.
- Design and conduct experiments to optimize reaction conditions, separation techniques, and overall process efficiency.
- Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, and mass/energy balances for new and existing processes.
- Collaborate with R&D chemists to understand reaction mechanisms and identify critical process parameters.
- Assist in troubleshooting process issues encountered during pilot trials and initial production runs.
- Ensure all process designs and operations comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
- 2-4 years of experience in process development, scale-up, or R&D support within the chemical industry.
- Familiarity with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Chemcad) is desirable.
- Hands-on experience in laboratory or pilot plant operations is an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret experimental data effectively.
- Good understanding of chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, and unit operations.
