About the Role
Our client is seeking a vigilant and knowledgeable Chemical Process Safety Engineer to join their dedicated safety team in Leeds . In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety across all chemical operations. You will conduct thorough risk assessments, develop and implement safety procedures, and ensure compliance with national and international safety regulations. Your expertise will be vital in preventing accidents, protecting personnel, and safeguarding the environment. This position requires a proactive approach to safety management and a deep understanding of chemical hazards and mitigation strategies, working on-site to foster a robust safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust process safety management (PSM) systems and programs.
- Investigate process safety incidents, near misses, and deviations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Provide expert technical advice and training on process safety principles and practices to engineering and operational staff.
- Review engineering designs and process modifications to ensure safety integrity and operability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience specifically in chemical process safety or industrial safety engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, such as PHA, MOC, mechanical integrity, and emergency planning.
- Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., COMAH, OSHA PSM).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to effectively interpret technical data.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
