Civil Engineer - Flood Risk Management

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent Civil Engineer with expertise in flood risk management to join their environmental engineering team in Nottingham . This role is vital in developing and implementing strategies to mitigate flood risks and protect communities from water-related hazards. You will work on a variety of projects, including the design of flood defense structures, surface water management plans, and hydraulic modeling. Key Responsibilities

• Undertake hydraulic modeling to assess flood risks for various scenarios (e.g., fluvial, pluvial, coastal).
• Design and specify flood defense structures, such as embankments, walls, and culverts.
• Develop surface water management plans and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) for new developments.
• Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and tender packages for flood risk mitigation projects.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies, environmental agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and project success.
• Contribute to the assessment of the environmental impact of proposed schemes and recommend mitigation measures.

Requirements

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in flood risk assessment and the design of flood defense or drainage systems.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM) is essential.
• Knowledge of relevant UK legislation and guidance related to flood risk management and drainage (e.g., The Flood and Water Management Act, CIRIA SuDS Manual).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
