Claims Handler

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and efficient Claims Handler to join their busy team in Sunderland . This role involves managing a portfolio of insurance claims from first notification of loss through to settlement, providing excellent customer service and ensuring claims are processed accurately and within service level agreements. You will be responsible for communicating with policyholders, assessing claims, and making fair settlement decisions. This is a key operational role within the insurance sector, contributing to the company's reputation for reliability and customer care in the North East .

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and log new insurance claims accurately, initiating the claims process.
• Communicate proactively with policyholders, providing updates and explanations regarding their claims.
• Investigate claims by gathering relevant information, such as policy details, incident reports, and supporting documentation.
• Assess the validity and value of claims, applying policy terms and conditions fairly.
• Negotiate settlements with policyholders or third parties where appropriate.
• Ensure all claims handling activities are recorded comprehensively and compliantly in the claims management system.

Requirements

• Previous experience in an insurance claims environment is essential.
• A good understanding of general insurance principles and policy wordings.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for dealing with diverse customers.
• Proficiency in using claims management software and standard office applications.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in the Sunderland office.
