HGV Class 1 (CE) Night Drivers

The Best Connection is recruiting experienced HGV Class 1 (CE) Drivers on behalf of our client, Howdens Joinery , the UK's leading kitchen manufacturer.

We are looking for professional and reliable Night Drivers to join their busy transport operation in Howden, East Yorkshire , supporting increased volumes through to mid-November , with ongoing opportunities available following successful assessment and induction.

The Role

Day Drivers

• Curtain-side trailer multi-drop deliveries
• Delivering flat-packed and palletised kitchen furniture to trade depots
• Occasional backloads on return journeys
• Start times typically between 04:00 and 09:00

Night Drivers

• Curtain-side trailer trunking work
• Deliveries to regional distribution centres (RDCs)
• Regular return loads of raw materials
• Start times typically between 15:00 and 21:00

What We're Looking For

This role requires a high level of professionalism and driving competence. Drivers must be confident with:

• Curtain-side trailers
• Load securing and strapping
• Vehicle coupling and uncoupling
• Tachograph and Working Time Directive compliance
• Safe and efficient driving practices

Driver performance is monitored through Microlise , so candidates must be comfortable working within a KPI-driven operation.

Pay Rates

• Monday to Friday: £19.94 per hour
• Weekend Rate: £24.65 per hour
• Night Shift Allowance: £15.66 per shift
• Night Out Allowance: £31.65 per night
• All breaks paid
• Minimum 8 hours guaranteed per shift

Induction Process

Day Drivers

Two-day assessment and induction:

• Driver awareness and safety training
• Tachograph and Highway Code review
• Practical driving assessment
• Accompanied working shift

Night Drivers

One-night induction:

• Safety and compliance training
• Practical assessment
• Accompanied trunking shift

Successful candidates will have access to ongoing, full-time work.

Essential Requirements

• Valid HGV Class 1 (CE) licence
• Minimum 12 months' Class 1 driving experience
• Recent and active Class 1 driving history
• Strong curtain-side and load-strapping experienceMaximum 6 penalty points
• No DR, DG or DD endorsements
