Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacist to join our team of pharmacists, technicians and ATO’s across the aseptic and clinical services at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The aseptic services encompasses; production of chemotherapy, TPN (adult and neonatal), specialist products for pain and plastics. You will also be responsible in assisting with the clinical pharmacy service to Oncology and Haematology patients.

This is a challenging and dynamic role that will allow the successful applicant to strengthen their clinical and aseptic knowledge and expertise.

The successful candidate will work full time hours 8.30am-5pm Monday – Friday, and will also be included in :

• On call duties on a rolling rota basis, approximately 1 in 40.
• Working Bank Holiday rota throughout the year
• variable daily start and finish times according to rota and need

Main duties of the job

The main duties include:

• Clinically and aseptically pre-checking prescriptions for cancer patients.
• Aseptic check of PN and other non-chemotherapy aseptically prepared treatments.
• Final check and release of aseptically prepared products.
• Liaising with medics and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and timely treatments are prepared to our patients.
• Provide clinical pharmacy service to the Oncology and Haematology wards.

Additionally, you will also be able to develop your negotiation, influencing, leadership and management skills. In doing so, you will be required to:

• Act as a positive role model for the clinical and aseptic services for pharmacy colleagues and other health care professionals.
• Regularly participate in audit and service improvements.
• Be involved in the preparation of policies and procedures.
• Be involved in risk reporting and management.
• Provide relevant and up to date education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

Person specification

Experience

• Relevant experience after pre registration training
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Experience in the training/supervision of staff
• Previous experience as a hospital pharmacist or in the pharmaceutical industry
• Previous experience of working within cancer services
• Membership of relevant organisations e.g. BOPA

Knowledge

• Management of staff
• Analytical and judgemental skills
• Concentration required as frequently interrupted with urgent requests.
• Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Office programs
• Teaching/training

Qualifications

• GPHC registration
• Diploma Clinical Pharmacy or Technical services (or working towards)
• Masters Degree in Pharmacy
