Salary: £25,000 – £27,000 per annum (actual salary), DOE
Hours: 8.15am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: 43 weeks per year (41 weeks term time + 2 additional weeks)
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an enthusiastic, organised and creative Coffee Shop Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day running and continued development of a welcoming community café based within a specialist education setting.
This is a rewarding and varied role combining café management, baking and food preparation, customer service, and community engagement, alongside providing a positive environment in which young people can gain valuable workplace experience.
The Role
As Coffee Shop Manager, you will oversee the smooth day-to-day operation of the café, maintaining excellent standards of customer service, food quality, cleanliness and compliance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the daily operation, including opening and closing procedures
- Creating a welcoming, friendly and professional customer experience
- Producing cakes, traybakes and other baked goods for sale
- Developing seasonal menus and new product ideas
- Managing stock levels, ordering supplies and building positive supplier relationships
- Supporting budget management and stock control
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, health & safety and catering compliance
- Monitoring sales and contributing ideas to develop and promote the café
- Supporting young people undertaking work experience within the café
- Demonstrating positive workplace practices and helping young people develop confidence, independence and employability skills
- Working collaboratively with education and support staff
- Building positive relationships with families, visitors, volunteers and community groups
- Supporting events and activities connected with the café
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong hospitality experience with a positive, hands-on approach.
You will ideally have:
- Experience within a café, catering, hospitality or food-service environment
- Experience supervising or managing day-to-day operations
- Good baking and food preparation skills
- A sound understanding of food hygiene requirements
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities
- The confidence to work independently and use your initiative
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- A positive attitude towards working alongside young people
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Experience within a school, community or charity environment would be advantageous, as would experience supporting young people through employment or work-experience activities. A Food Hygiene qualification and/or experience of social enterprise or community business development would also be beneficial.
