About the Role

Our client is looking for a seasoned Commercial Manager to oversee the commercial aspects of major construction projects in the Southampton area. This senior role is critical for ensuring the financial success and profitability of all projects undertaken. You will lead a team of quantity surveyors and commercial staff, managing contracts, procurement, cost control, and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional negotiation skills, a deep understanding of construction law and contracts, and a strategic mindset. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the commercial team, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Oversee all contract administration, including the negotiation and agreement of terms, variations, and claims.
• Develop and implement robust cost management strategies to ensure projects remain within budget.
• Conduct commercial risk assessments and implement mitigation plans.
• Manage procurement processes, including tendering and subcontractor appointments.
• Prepare detailed financial reports and forecasts for senior management and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Extensive experience (10+ years) as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor in the construction sector .
• Expert knowledge of various forms of construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, JCT).
• Strong understanding of financial management, procurement, and contract law.
• Proven ability to lead and develop teams.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, or a related commercial discipline; MRICS qualification preferred.
