Are you a commercially minded leader with a background in engineering or manufacturing, ready to take ownership of a quote-to-order function from enquiry through to delivery? We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing business for an experienced Commercial Manager to lead their commercial team and personally manage a portfolio of key accounts.
This is a senior, hands-on role reporting directly to the Commercial Director — ideal for someone who thrives on balancing people leadership with pricing, contract review and margin protection in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading, coaching and developing a commercial team of three, setting objectives and managing day-to-day workload
- Owning a portfolio of key accounts, building relationships at buyer and engineering level and delivering growth targets
- Managing the RFQ and quotation process end to end, ensuring turnaround targets and quote conversion goals are met
- Reviewing and approving quotations and pricing within delegated authority, ensuring accurate cost build-ups and target margins
- Owning the contract review process, including PO acceptance, customer terms and flow-down requirements
- Monitoring realised versus quoted margin, leading price negotiations and surcharge recovery
- Reporting on enquiry levels, quote conversion, orderbook and sales forecast
- Acting as senior escalation point for customer commercial issues, working cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering and Production
- Supporting new business development, including customer visits and account onboarding
- Ensuring commercial processes comply with AS9100, NADCAP and export control requirements
What we're looking for:
- 5+ years' experience in a commercial, account management or internal sales role within an engineering or manufacturing business
- Proven experience managing or supervising a team
- Experience quoting and pricing bespoke or low-volume manufactured components
- A track record of managing key accounts and delivering growth
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites
- Advanced Excel skills for pricing models, margin analysis and reporting
Desirable
- Experience in precision machining, fabrication or subcontract manufacturing
- Experience supplying aerospace, defence, energy or medical sectors
- A degree, HNC/HND in engineering or business, or a formal management qualification (ILM/CMI)
- Experience negotiating long-term agreements or framework contracts
What's on offer:
- Salary up to £60,000, dependent on experience
- Dayshift working hours
- A senior, influential role within a growing commercial function
- The opportunity to lead a team and shape commercial strategy
