About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and analytical Commercial Underwriter to join their dynamic team in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is critical in assessing and managing risks associated with commercial insurance policies, ensuring profitable growth for the business. You will be responsible for evaluating applications, setting appropriate terms and premiums, and developing strong relationships with brokers and agents. This position offers the chance to work with a wide array of commercial risks and contribute to the strategic decision-making process within the underwriting department, based in our Newcastle upon Tyne office.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze commercial insurance applications, assessing risk exposure and financial viability.
• Determine appropriate policy terms, conditions, and pricing to ensure profitability and competitiveness.
• Underwrite new business and renewals for a portfolio of commercial clients, adhering to underwriting guidelines.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients to understand their needs and market dynamics.
• Collaborate with claims and actuarial teams to share insights and improve underwriting strategies.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, market changes, and regulatory developments affecting commercial insurance.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience as a Commercial Underwriter or in a related insurance role.
• Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, risk assessment, and financial analysis.
• Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport.
• A relevant professional qualification (e.g., CII) is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in underwriting systems and data analysis tools.
