Job Description
Job Summary
The Senior Commodity Buyer’s primary purpose is to ensure effective and efficient flow of goods. Develop and execute Commodity Strategies that drive long-term improvements in Quality, Cost and Delivery performance. Establish and maintain good Supplier relationships, and where appropriate introduce Long Term Supplier Agreements
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver commodity strategies using market analysis and strategic sourcing to improve quality, cost and delivery while reducing supply risk.
- Negotiate supplier contracts, pricing and terms, manage logistics, and establish Long-Term Agreements that support profitability and effective Bill of Materials cost control.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory requirements and commercial volatility to inform long-term cost planning and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and existing suppliers, assessing capability, capacity, dependencies, quality systems and potential for growth.
- Identify, assess and onboard new suppliers, working with Quality to prioritise audits, maintain accurate supplier data and strengthen control of the supply chain.
- Lead cross-functional procurement meetings, communicate strategy, resolve actions, report against KPIs, drive continuous improvement and support wider team priorities.
About you
- Demonstratable experience on a significant commodity spend
- Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, and is confident using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrates strong negotiation and contract management skills, supported by an analytical and data-driven approach.
- Is self-motivated and able to manage workload independently to achieve targets and meet deadlines.
- Works accurately and methodically, with strong organisational skills and close attention to detail to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Remains resilient under pressure, managing multiple priorities and adapting effectively to changing or unplanned demands.
- Shows integrity and a strong performance ethic, working collaboratively and motivating others to complete tasks on time
