Job Description
Compliance Manager - Food Supplements
£50,000-£60,000 | Lewes, East Sussex | Permanent | On-site
This isn’t a compliance role where you’ll simply review labels, maintain documents and hand everything over once a product reaches production.
We’re looking for someone who understands what happens next.
You’ll take ownership of compliance across the full product lifecycle for a growing premium nutrition brand, from ingredients, formulations and claims through to suppliers, manufacturing, quality systems and international markets.
It’s a broad and influential position for someone who can make confident technical decisions, challenge where needed and translate regulatory requirements into practical action across the business.
The role
You’ll work closely with Product Development, Operations, Supply Chain and Marketing, taking responsibility for areas including:
Operational and manufacturing compliance after product specifications have been approved
Reviewing and approving suppliers against quality and compliance standards
Ingredient, formulation, claims, labelling and artwork compliance
Product technical files, specifications, testing and traceability
Quality management systems, SOPs and internal auditing
Supporting and hosting external audits and certification activity
Maintaining standards such as GMP, BRCGS, FSSC 22000 or SALSA
Reviewing marketing content and health claims
Managing complaints, non-conformances, corrective actions and product changes
Customs and trade compliance, including commodity and HS codes
UK and EU regulatory compliance
Supporting expansion into the US market and working with FDA requirements
Providing clear, commercially practical compliance advice to senior stakeholders
What we’re looking for
You’ll need current, hands-on compliance experience within food supplements, nutrition, food manufacturing or another closely regulated consumer product environment.
More importantly, you’ll understand how compliance works within a live manufacturing and supply chain operation, not only during formulation or pre-launch NPD.
You should be able to demonstrate:
Strong operational or manufacturing compliance experience
Direct involvement in supplier approval, vetting or auditing
Confidence making independent, high-level compliance decisions
A working understanding of quality systems, audits and certification standards
Current knowledge of UK and EU food or supplement regulations
Experience with customs, trade compliance or commodity classification
Exposure to US/FDA requirements would be highly valuable
Clear examples of resolving complex compliance issues in practice
The ability to work across technical, operational and commercial teams
Experience within vitamins, minerals, food supplements or functional nutrition would be particularly attractive.
The opportunity
You’ll be joining a purpose-led, growing business with an established product range and ambitious international plans.
This is an opportunity to genuinely shape how compliance operates across the business rather than simply inherit an administrative function. You’ll have visibility, autonomy and the chance to make a noticeable impact across products, suppliers and manufacturing operations.
The role will be based on-site in Lewes five days per week.
If you have the technical knowledge but, just as importantly, the operational confidence to take ownership and make decisions, I’d be keen to hear from you.
