Exciting opportunity | Rapidly expanding e-commerce marketplace
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Marketplace Compliance Manager to join a rapidly expanding e-commerce marketplace team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing digital business and play a key role in building a safe, trusted and compliant marketplace as the operation continues to scale.
This is a senior compliance role with responsibility for the end-to-end marketplace compliance framework, covering seller vetting, product and listing compliance, consumer protection, regulatory requirements, risk management and enforcement.
You will work closely with Marketplace leadership and cross-functional teams including Legal, Finance, Data Protection, Business Development, Seller Experience and Operations, providing practical advice that protects customers and the business while enabling sustainable commercial growth.
Role Overview
As Marketplace Compliance Manager, you will own and continuously develop the compliance framework that governs who can sell, what can be sold and how products and sellers are presented to customers.
You will identify emerging risks, ensure appropriate controls are in place and oversee a consistent, evidence-based approach to seller and product compliance.
The role is both strategic and hands-on, combining regulatory knowledge with operational delivery. You will be expected to translate complex requirements into clear, practical processes that sellers and internal teams can follow.
As the marketplace continues to expand, you will play an important role in shaping compliance standards for new categories, sellers, products, services and marketplace features.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
Owning and maintaining the marketplace compliance framework, including policies, standards, controls and operating procedures.
Establishing and embedding clear requirements covering seller onboarding, product listings, restricted products and seller conduct.
Leading seller vetting and due diligence processes, including business verification, identity checks, financial standing, VAT requirements and relevant platform reporting obligations.
Ensuring appropriate ongoing seller monitoring and re-verification after onboarding.
Defining and enforcing standards for restricted and prohibited products, ensuring breaches are identified and addressed promptly.
Overseeing compliance requirements relating to consumer protection, product information, pricing claims, reviews and seller behaviour.
Working with Finance and other specialist teams to support accurate and timely compliance with VAT and digital platform reporting obligations.
Monitoring marketplace listings and seller activity to identify potential compliance issues, risks or patterns of non-compliance.
Developing proactive monitoring and control measures that can operate effectively at marketplace scale.
Managing compliance issues through a clear and documented remediation and enforcement process, including warnings, corrective actions, suspensions and removals where appropriate.
Ensuring enforcement decisions are proportionate, consistent, evidence-based and properly documented.
Maintaining a comprehensive marketplace compliance risk register, including risks, controls, actions, owners and escalation points.
Monitoring regulatory and legislative developments affecting e-commerce, consumer protection, digital markets, tax, data and online marketplaces.
Assessing regulatory changes and translating their impact into practical actions, policies and process improvements.
Ensuring marketplace policies, seller terms, procedures, audit trails and decision logs remain accurate, current and audit-ready.
Acting as a key Marketplace contact for Legal, Finance, Data Protection and other specialist functions.
Supporting responses to external stakeholders, including Trading Standards, regulators and other relevant enforcement bodies where required.
Advising the Marketplace leadership team on compliance implications associated with new sellers, product categories, services, advertising and marketplace features.
Working with Business Development and Seller Experience teams to ensure compliance expectations are clearly communicated to new and existing sellers.
Partnering with Retail Media and commercial teams to ensure advertising and promotional activity meets agreed standards.
Providing practical guidance to sellers and internal teams on compliance requirements and acceptable marketplace practices.
Identifying opportunities to simplify, strengthen and automate compliance processes as the marketplace scales.
Maintaining a clear and reliable source of truth for marketplace compliance policies, evidence, controls and decisions.
Preparing compliance reporting, management information and updates for senior stakeholders.
Supporting internal audits, investigations, regulatory enquiries and compliance reviews.
Contributing to the wider Marketplace leadership team and helping embed compliance into commercial and operational decision-making.
Marketplace Compliance Scope
The role will have responsibility across key marketplace compliance areas, including:

Essential & Desirable Skills
We are looking for someone with:
Proven experience in compliance, trust and safety, regulatory risk or marketplace governance, ideally within e-commerce, online retail or a digital platform.
Strong working knowledge of UK consumer protection legislation and online marketplace obligations.
Experience designing, implementing or managing compliance frameworks and controls.
Strong understanding of seller due diligence, product compliance and marketplace risk.
Experience managing a compliance risk register and overseeing remediation activities.

You will be comfortable operating in an environment where the marketplace is evolving quickly, with new sellers, products, categories and features being introduced regularly.
You will be someone who can balance strong compliance standards with practical commercial thinking — identifying risk, finding workable solutions and helping teams understand what good compliance looks like in practice.
You will also bring a proactive mindset, spotting emerging regulatory or operational risks early and taking action before they become significant issues.
As the marketplace continues to expand, you will have the opportunity to shape and develop the compliance framework as the business scales, working at the heart of a growing digital marketplace and influencing how compliance is embedded across the organisation.

Success in this role will include:
Sellers being appropriately vetted and verified before and during their marketplace journey.
Compliance requirements being embedded effectively into marketplace operations.
Prohibited and non-compliant products being identified and addressed proactively.
Marketplace compliance risks being clearly documented, prioritised and actively managed.
Policies, seller terms and controls remaining aligned with regulatory requirements.
Enforcement decisions being consistent, proportionate, fair and fully documented.
Regulatory, audit and compliance enquiries being handled accurately and within required timescales.
Marketplace leadership having clear visibility of compliance risks and confidence in the effectiveness of the control framework.
Compliance processes becoming increasingly efficient, scalable and embedded as the marketplace continues to grow.
