Component Assembly Technician

Nothing goes on the car until you sign it off. Component Assembly is where suspension, brake, steering, power unit integration and drive-train assemblies are built, stripped, serviced and passed off, for race cars, test cars, PR cars and customer cars alike.

It is a specialist function with a short line to the design office. When you find something wrong during a strip, the person who can fix it is in the same building. Your sign-off is the last check before a part goes on a car that races, so the standard is simple: no defect gets passed on.

What you'll be doing

• Building, stripping and servicing Williams and customer suspension, brake, steering, power unit integration and drive-train components to Engineering and Manufacturing procedure
• Assessing every component as it comes apart and goes back together, and reporting faults rather than working around them
• Operating pass-off and test rigs
• Raising assembly and quality issues with the team leader or the relevant design authority
• Building to deadlines set by the race and test calendar, working from the daily work list
• Recording build and component information accurately in our systems, so the life history of every part stands up to scrutiny
• Keeping the workshop and equipment to the standard the work demands

Qualifications

What you'll bring

You'll have hands-on experience assembling complex mechanical components to tight tolerances - torque-to-spec, clean-build discipline, the confidence to stop and flag a part that isn't right. Ideally that comes from F1, F2 or sportscar racing.

You'll be comfortable working from CAD drawings and recording build data accurately. Experience with Teamcenter PLM, lifing systems, or an ERP/manufacturing execution system will help you settle in quickly.

Where it can lead

The department also builds and services hydraulic components, so experience there is welcome, and it's a route to specialise if that interests you. For the right person, there's also potential to progress into a trackside role.
