Computational Scientist - Cheminformatics

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Computational Scientist with expertise in Cheminformatics to join their innovative research hub in Bristol . This role is essential for applying computational techniques to accelerate drug discovery and development by managing, analyzing, and interpreting chemical data. You will work closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and other computational scientists to design and implement strategies that enhance the efficiency of identifying and optimizing potential drug candidates. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cheminformatics databases and tools for compound management and analysis.
• Perform virtual screening, compound property prediction, and similarity searching using various cheminformatics platforms.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists to design novel molecules with desired properties.
• Analyze large chemical datasets to identify structure-activity relationships (SAR) and trends.
• Implement and automate cheminformatics workflows using scripting languages.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in cheminformatics and computational chemistry.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in cheminformatics, preferably within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Proficiency with standard cheminformatics software (e.g., RDKit, KNIME, MOE) and chemical drawing tools.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python for data analysis and workflow automation.
• Strong understanding of chemical structures, properties, and drug discovery principles.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, hybrid setting.
