Conservation Architect

About the Role

Our client, a highly regarded architectural firm based in Bristol with a strong specialism in heritage and conservation, is seeking an experienced Conservation Architect . This role involves working on the sensitive restoration, refurbishment, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings and sensitive sites. You will be responsible for undertaking building surveys, preparing conservation statements, and developing design proposals that respect the historical significance and integrity of these assets. This is an exciting opportunity for a conservation specialist to contribute to the preservation and enhancement of the built heritage, working within a hybrid model that combines studio collaboration with remote working flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake detailed surveys and condition assessments of historic buildings.
• Prepare conservation management plans , heritage statements, and design strategies for heritage projects.
• Develop sensitive and appropriate architectural proposals for the repair, alteration, and reuse of historic structures.
• Liaise with heritage bodies such as Historic England, local authorities, and amenity societies.
• Produce detailed drawings and specifications for conservation works, ensuring compliance with best practices.
• Manage conservation projects from inception to completion, coordinating with specialist contractors and consultants.

Requirements

• Qualified Architect with specialist postgraduate qualification or significant demonstrable experience in conservation architecture .
• In-depth understanding of historic building materials, construction techniques, and conservation principles.
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, with excellent hand-drawing and sketching skills.
• Experience in preparing heritage statements and working with heritage assets.
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills, both written and verbal.
