About the Role

This unique role focuses on the sensitive restoration, adaptation, and preservation of historic buildings and heritage assets. You will apply your deep understanding of historical architecture, materials, and conservation techniques to projects requiring meticulous care and expertise. Working closely with heritage bodies and clients, you will ensure that interventions respect the significance of the existing fabric while meeting contemporary needs. Key Responsibilities

• Undertake condition surveys and develop conservation strategies for historic buildings.
• Prepare detailed designs, specifications, and drawings for repair, restoration, and sensitive alterations.
• Liaise with statutory bodies such as Historic England and local planning authorities.
• Advise clients on heritage impact assessments and planning applications for listed buildings.
• Oversee conservation works on site, ensuring high standards of craftsmanship and material use.
• Research historical building techniques and materials to inform conservation approaches.

Requirements

• Qualified Architect with significant experience and specialist knowledge in architectural conservation.
• Membership of the IHBC (Institute for Historic Building Conservation) or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Thorough understanding of the history of British architecture and traditional building methods.
• Proficiency in architectural design software, with an ability to produce detailed conservation drawings.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Commitment to working full-time from our Reading office.
