Conservation Architect

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Conservation Architect to join their specialist team in Leeds . This crucial role focuses on the sensitive restoration, refurbishment, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings and heritage assets across the region. You will be responsible for the technical assessment of existing structures, the development of conservation strategies, and the meticulous execution of projects that respect and preserve architectural heritage. The position demands a deep understanding of historic building materials, construction techniques, and conservation principles, working closely with heritage bodies and clients to ensure the longevity and integrity of valuable architectural legacies in Leeds and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed surveys and condition assessments of historic buildings and heritage sites.
• Develop conservation management plans and repair strategies for listed buildings and conservation areas.
• Prepare high-quality design proposals, specifications, and tender documents for conservation projects.
• Oversee works on site, ensuring that repairs and interventions are carried out sensitively and in accordance with best practice.
• Liaise with heritage organisations such as Historic England, local planning authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Advise clients on heritage asset management, planning policy, and regulatory compliance related to historic buildings in Leeds .

Requirements

• Qualified Architect with significant experience in architectural conservation.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RIBA) and potentially a specialist conservation accreditation.
• In-depth knowledge of historic building fabric, traditional materials, and repair techniques.
• Proficiency in architectural drawing software and relevant heritage assessment tools.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly.
