Under the leadership of Director of Public Health, Sharon Stoltz, who joined initially on an interim basis before being appointed substantively in March, the council has embarked on an ambitious journey to establish its own dedicated Public Health function following the end of a long-standing shared service arrangement.
This is a rare opportunity to join a service being built from the ground up. Are you an experienced Consultant in Public Health looking for an opportunity to shape long-term population health outcomes, influence system-wide change and work directly with a Director of Public Health? This is a high-impact leadership opportunity where you will manage specialist teams, lead major public health programmes and influence strategic decisions across health, social care and partner organisations. Reporting to the Director of Public Health, you will have responsibility for up to 10 direct reports and the chance to drive meaningful improvements in health and wellbeing across communities.
Your role as Consultant in Public Health:
Lead strategic public health priorities, improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities across communities. Provide expert leadership on health protection, health improvement, commissioning, and evidence-based service development. Influence senior stakeholders across councils, NHS partners, voluntary organisations and wider system partners. Lead the development of public health strategies, policies, needs assessments and outcome-focused programmes. Manage budgets, performance, teams and resources while deputising for the Director of Public Health when required. Your previous experience as Consultant in Public Health:
Inclusion on the GMC, GDC Specialist Register or UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists. Significant experience delivering complex change programmes across organisational boundaries. Strong understanding of health systems, social care, wider determinants of health and partnership working. Proven leadership, financial management and performance management experience. Excellent analytical, communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage senior leaders and elected members.As a Consultant in Public Health, you will be at the forefront of tackling complex public health challenges, using intelligence, evidence and innovation to deliver lasting improvements. You will work across organisational boundaries, champion prevention, support commissioning decisions and provide expert advice on public health priorities.
