Consultant Psychiatrist

An exciting medical opportunity has opened through Evolve Staffing Ltd. for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a dedicated mental health directorate on the Isle of Wight. Serving an island population, this senior position involves managing a diverse clinical caseload across community and acute mental health teams. The successful candidate will provide senior psychiatric expertise, driving diagnostic accuracy, therapeutic interventions, and recovery-focused care plans for patients experiencing severe psychiatric conditions, while offering guidance to an experienced multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Core Clinical Responsibilities:

Lead psychiatric assessments and care management for adult service users with acute and chronic mental health conditions.

*

Fulfill statutory requirements under the Mental Health Act as a Section 12(2) approved doctor and Approved Clinician (AC) for formal assessments, hospital managers' hearings, and Mental Health Review Tribunals.

*

Review, optimize, and manage complex pharmacological treatment regimes in line with best clinical practice guidelines.

*

Collaborate with community mental health teams (CMHT), crisis resolution and home treatment teams (CRHTT), and primary care colleagues to facilitate smooth patient pathways.

*

Oversee comprehensive physical health monitoring associated with long-term psychiatric interventions and psychotropic medications.

*

Actively participate in departmental clinical governance, clinical safety reviews, and quality assurance processes.

Essential Candidate Requirements:

Full GMC Registration with a valid Licence to Practise.

*

Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in General Adult Psychiatry (CCT preferred).

*

Active Approved Clinician (AC) status and Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act.

*

MRCPsych designation or equivalent post-graduate psychiatric qualification.

*

Demonstrated experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist within an NHS hospital or community setting.
