About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned Contracts Manager to oversee the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects in the Cambridge area and beyond. This senior role involves managing all contractual matters, from tender stage through to project completion, ensuring profitability and minimizing risk. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and subcontractors, providing expert advice on contract law and commercial strategy. This hybrid role offers a blend of office-based work and remote flexibility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in construction contracts, strong negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of commercial management within the built environment, ensuring all projects are executed to the highest commercial and legal standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all contractual documentation and correspondence for construction projects, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
- Lead the negotiation of contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to secure favourable terms.
- Oversee the procurement process, including tendering, evaluation, and award of contracts.
- Monitor project financial performance, including cost control, valuation, and final account settlement.
- Identify, assess, and manage contractual risks and disputes, developing strategies for resolution.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company policies throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Extensive experience as a Contracts Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor with significant contractual responsibilities in the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of various construction contract forms (e.g., JCT, NEC, FIDIC) and their commercial implications.
- Proven ability in contract negotiation, administration, and dispute resolution.
- Strong understanding of project finance, risk management, and commercial strategy.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, effective in a hybrid working model.
