The Role
A leading manufacturer of bespoke industrial machinery is seeking an experienced Control Panel Builder to join its electrical production team.
This is a hands-on, workshop-based position involving the construction and wiring of bespoke, low-volume control panels for industrial equipment. The role will suit an experienced electrical panel builder who takes pride in producing high-quality workmanship within a varied manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and wire low-voltage control panels from 110–600V AC, single and three-phase, and 24V DC systems.
* Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical layout drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
* Install and terminate circuit protection devices, relays, solenoid valves, inverter drives, soft starts and contactors.
* Install and wire HMIs and PLC systems, including Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley and Siemens.
* Build a variety of panels and enclosures, including junction boxes, HMI enclosures, MCCs and multi-door cabinets.
* Fabricate and assemble panel components using hand and power tools.
* Measure, mark out and work with stainless steel, GRP, mild steel and galvanised steel.
* Carry out continuity testing and basic functional checks.
* Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
* Work closely with design and test engineers, following guidance from supervisors where required.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum 4 years' experience in electrical control panel building.
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical layout drawings.
* Strong experience with wire selection, crimping, ferrule termination and cable routing.
* Good understanding of both AC and DC control systems.
* High level of attention to detail and quality-focused workmanship.
* Competent using workshop tools and following safe working practices.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Experience
* Formal electrical qualifications.
* Completed electrical apprenticeship.
* Experience using EPLAN and working from detailed BOMs.
* Experience within food machinery, industrial automation or bespoke machinery manufacturing.
* Understanding of electrical testing procedures and panel safety checks
