Job Description
Our operation based in Liverpool is looking for a Customs Team Leader to join the team. In this role you will oversee daily customs operations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across all import and export activities.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills and in-depth customs knowledge to make a real impact within a fast-paced logistics environment. This is a hybrid, Monday to Friday role.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
- Lead and inspire a team responsible for Import & Export declarations and Transit Movements
- Ensure all customs activities are accurate, compliant, and completed within required timelines
- Ensure compliance with HMRC, statutory requirements and other Customs Authorisations
- Monitor KPIs, SLAs, performance, and capacity, ensuring operational targets are consistently achieved
- Identify process inefficiencies and deliver continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and service
- Act as the first point of escalation for customer queries and complaints
- Build strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, attending customer meetings where required
- Support team recruitment, development, performance management, and staff engagement
- Provide coaching and guidance on customs regulations, process changes, and best practice
- Oversee month-end closure activities and ensure operational deadlines are met
- Support business growth through innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Our ideal candidate will have experience in customs operations and team leading ideally with a UK Customs Academy Level 2 or Level 4 qualification, or equivalent relevant experience. You will have strong knowledge of HMRC customs requirements, as well as other government systems and applications, including Port Health and DEFRA. Experience with customs systems such as Destin8, CNS Compass, and E-Customs is desirable, alongside good proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
You will have strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, follow direction, manage priorities, and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment. A results-driven mindset, combined with experience in continuous improvement and a pragmatic, persistent approach to overcoming challenges, is essential.
