Cyber Security Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a proactive and technically adept Cyber Security Engineer to join their expanding team in Manchester . This role focuses on the technical implementation and maintenance of security systems designed to protect the company's network infrastructure and data. You will work hands-on with a variety of security tools and technologies, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing solutions to fortify defenses against cyber threats. This position is ideal for an engineer passionate about cybersecurity and keen to contribute to building a resilient security architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, configure, and manage security solutions, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security.
• Monitor security alerts and logs, investigating potential security incidents and escalating as necessary.
• Perform regular vulnerability scanning and penetration testing to identify and remediate weaknesses.
• Develop and maintain security documentation, including network diagrams and standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate with IT operations and development teams to integrate security best practices into system design and deployment.
• Participate in the evaluation and adoption of new security technologies and tools to enhance overall security posture.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in cyber security engineering or a similar technical security role.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and security principles.
• Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container security concepts.
• Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation of security tasks is a plus.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CEH, or CCNA Security are advantageous.
