The Data & Analytics Specialist - Data Governance sits at the intersection of enterprise governance standards and business execution. You will empower teams across Morrisons to build and consume trustworthy, self-service data products safely and consistently. You will support the introduction of computational governance that is seen as an enabler and not a blocker. You will drive the creation of the Data Council and lead efforts to build the Data Community.
Accountabilities
Customer (Internal Business Users & Leadership)
- Act as an internal consultant, helping business functions design consumable, reusable data products aligned with enterprise standards.
- Establish and publish standardised business definitions and core company metrics to ensure a single, consistent version of truth across all reporting.
- Manage and enrich the central Data Catalog, ensuring data assets are easy to discover, understand, and access without requiring technical intervention.
- Gather business requirements for governance and data quality, translating them into practical rules and automated checks.
Colleague (Enablement & Culture)
- Lead enablement initiatives across the organisation to build data literacy, product thinking, and stewardship capabilities.
- Create and maintain reusable governance toolkits, canvas templates, best-practice guides, and example builds for development teams.
- Foster an internal community of practice and empower domain "Data Champions" to drive local data ownership and accountability.
- Partner with engineering squads during development sprints to define data standards, validate acceptance criteria, and ensure compliance by design.
Cash & Profit
- Reduce operational waste and duplication by removing point-to-point data pipelines and redundant reporting.
- Enable faster time-to-insight for operational teams, directly supporting EBITDA improvements through faster, accurate decision-making.
Operational (Governance & Controls)
- Define and maintain data quality standards, automated verification rules, and service level expectations at the point of data creation.
- Embed security, privacy-by-design, and access management policies into all reusable data assets.
- Monitor asset health, lineage, and usage performance across the data landscape, recommending the retirement or consolidation of underutilised assets.
- Support the Data Leadership Council with tracking governance maturity, policy compliance, and risk registers.
