Data Protection Lawyer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a knowledgeable Data Protection Lawyer to join their team in Edinburgh . This key role involves providing expert legal advice on data privacy compliance, including GDPR and other relevant regulations, across all business operations. You will work closely with IT, marketing, and compliance teams to develop and implement robust data protection strategies. This position offers a unique opportunity for a specialist lawyer to play a vital role in ensuring the organization adheres to the highest standards of data privacy and security in a rapidly evolving legal landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on compliance with GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and other applicable privacy laws.
• Develop and implement data protection policies, procedures, and training programs.
• Review and advise on data processing agreements and international data transfers.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and assist with regulatory investigations.
• Manage data breach incidents and advise on notification obligations.
• Liaise with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and other regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor in Scotland with significant experience in data protection and privacy law .
• In-depth knowledge of GDPR and its practical application.
• Experience advising on cross-border data transfers and international privacy frameworks.
• Familiarity with information security principles and practices.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable advising at all levels.
